Assembling Reality
lauri burrier –– a few words on my process
I’m a lifelong maker of drawings, paintings, sculpture, photography and film. I’ve also enjoyed a career designing and building gardens and garden art. My education dates back to the ’70’s and last week, or, right now. I take learning seriously and have many teachers including the sky, the waters and, our greatest mother and home, right here.
No matter what we are making, it takes time to imagine the work and then get over imagining it so that it can continue with its own breath. These are inflection points for pivoting and/or building upon what is recognized. So, the work teaches me and I follow as best I can.
Currently, I’m focusing on my studio art practice with abstract or abstracted works on both paper and canvas in water based media. I’m influenced by nature, day to day events and information that’s sticky for me, offering opportunities for deeper consideration and discernment of what is relevant now and perhaps in the immediate future.
I strive for expanding my awareness way beyond what I think I know — which is limited by simply thinking I know anything at all — and opening up to reframing how I hold it all.
