Bio
Lauri Burrier (b. 1953 Yakima, WA), painter, navigates the tension and balance between grit, fluidity, chroma and texture of each subject. Wild and peaceful places whether unknown or vulnerable to development capture her curiosity. Burrier’s work reflects the energy of recovering, thriving in spite of tragedy. Burn scars in the aftermath of wildfires and the history and presence of ancient geological formations are journeys into Nature easily encountered near her mountain home.
Burrier studied Art and Design at the Factory of Visual Arts in Seattle, WA, and filmmaking at the San Francisco Art Institute.
Artist Statement
The wise presence of meadows, creeks, and mountain trails are essential to my understanding of what it is to be awake. They provide healing, a way to find peace and as a way of seeing more deeply. Daily access teaches me how light descends into a fold of sandstone, how texture changes with distance, and how silence holds as much presence as form.
My recent era designing and building gardens with California native and Mediterranean plant life stokes the fire in my studio work. Direct experience with living things and their environments is surprisingly relevant to expressing the simple beauty of life. It’s my goal to share that in my work.
